Are you craving chocolate just about now? I totally get it. These Coconut Cacao Balls are a great alternative to the sugar laden sort you get at the grocery store.
Cacao is the featured ingredient here with it’s healthy properties.
Note the spelling. It’s healthier then the more familiar cocoa. Cacao is the seed (shaped like a bean) from which chocolate is made and cocoa on the other hand is an ingredient in chocolate. Cacao is the raw bean that has been minimally processed with no additives and it’s packed with flavonoids which may lower blood pressure, improve blood flow to the brain and heart, and aid in preventing blood clots.
The flavonoids may also help increase insulin sensitivity reducing the risk of diabetes. It can reduce inflammation in the body which in turn can reduce the risk of some cancers, diabetes, arthritis, depression and Alzheimer’s disease .
Cacao powder is also an excellent source of iron, protein, magnesium, potassium and Fiber.
In short, the next time you are at the grocery store make sure to swap out cocoa powder for cocao ! Enjoy these little nutritious bombs!
